Finally on the road!

Hi ya'll, so I had these grandiose plans to create a blog, a YouTube channel, a robust Facebook page all to chronicle our trip and build a big following. And start this All 2-3 weeks before I actually left with Miranda on this hike so you could see our preparations.

Then reality hit.

Here's the thing: I have a mental retardation when it comes to time. I don't grasp the concept that time is finite and that you cant get 6 months worth of planning, 6 months worth of fitness training, wrap up your full time job, start a new career AND become a world class blogger in 10 days.  I tried.

But that is all in the past. Miranda and I are on the road now with our mom who is dropping us off at our starting point. I feel the binding cords of all my earthly reponsibilities start to loosen and slip off. The call of the woods is starting to rumble in my body. Or maybe that is my stomach. Mom is trying to fatten me up in one day.  And my belly doeth protest.

I don't think the reality of this moment has really hit yet. Maybe it will when I watch the taillights of my car drive away leaving me and my sister alone in the middle of nowhere. As Frank, my brother so lovingly said "you are absolutely insane."

But the fulfillment of a dream is a special thing. I can't remember when the seed of this dream first got planted. It was watered by many backpacking trips, hikes, and reading several other memoirs of other PCT hikers. And planted in a soil prepared for adventure. Now I'm reaping the fruit of that seed. Crazy.

Hope you enjoy the journey we are embarking on.  And from your warm dry home! Maybe I need some psychiatric help...
